Terms and Conditions of Use

for the Sketches written by Jane And Mark Lewis and published on this site

Contents

Preamble

We are keen to share our sketches and allow them to be used without the need to pay a license fee (which many professionally written sketches require). We are also keen to encourage church drama groups to adapt our sketches to their own situation or use our ideas to write their own material.

However, to protect your freedom to use these sketches in this way we wish to avoid others being able to claim the sketches as their own and impose commercial restrictions on their use or distribution.

To do this we:

  1. copyright the sketches, and
  2. license the sketch for you to perform, copy and modify.

If you do perform any of our sketches or write or perform a sketch based on one of ours then please let us know - we'd love to hear how our material is being used. If you adapt or translate one of our sketches or write your own based on one of our ideas and you would like to publish it on this site then send it in to us too.

Our sketches are intended for use by amateur Christian/church-based drama groups or individuals and the terms and conditions below reflect this. If you wish to use any of the sketches in a context not covered by the conditions below (e.g. within a professional performance) please contact us to obtain permission prior to using the material.

To contact us drop us an email at: sketches@potted jam.org or via our facebook page.

Terms and Conditions of Use

0. This License applies to any sketch published on this web-site and/or carrying our copyright notice. The "Sketch", below, refers to any such sketch and a "work based on the Sketch" means either the Sketch or any derivative work under copyright law: that is to say, a work containing the Sketch or a portion of it, either verbatim or with modifications and/or translated into another language. (Hereinafter, translation is included without limitation in the term "modification".) Each licensee is addressed as "you".

1. You may perform the Sketch free of charge. You may not charge a fee for the performance of the sketch or for any performance which includes the sketch.

2. You may copy and distribute verbatim copies of the Sketch (providing the copyright notices and references to this website remain intact). You may not charge a fee for the distibution.

3. You may modify your copy or copies of the Sketch or any portion of it, thus forming a work based on the Sketch, and copy and distribute such modifications or work under the terms of Sections 1 and 2  above, provided that you also meet all of these conditions:

  • a) The modified sketch must contain a prominent notice which gives credit to the original authors of the Sketch and states that you have changed the Sketch and the date of that change.
  • b) You must cause any sketch that you distribute or publish, that in whole or in part contains or is derived from the Sketch or any part thereof, to be licensed as a whole at no charge to all third parties under the terms of this License.
  • c) The modified sketch must include an appropriate copyright notice and a notice that users may redistribute the sketch under these conditions, and telling the user how to view a copy of this License.

These requirements apply to the modified work as a whole. If identifiable sections of that work are not derived from the Sketch, and can be reasonably considered independent and separate works in themselves, then this License, and its terms, do not apply to those sections when you distribute them as separate works. But when you distribute the same sections as part of a whole which is a work based on the Sketch, the distribution of the whole must be on the terms of this License, whose permissions for other licensees extend to the entire whole, and thus to each and every part regardless of who wrote it.

Thus, it is not the intent of this section to claim rights or contest your rights to work written entirely by you; rather, the intent is to exercise the right to control the distribution of derivative or collective works based on the Sketch.

In addition, mere aggregation of another work not based on the Sketch with the Sketch (or with a work based on the Sketch) on a volume of a storage or distribution medium does not bring the other work under the scope of this License.

4. You may not perform, copy, modify or distribute the Sketch except as expressly provided under this License. Any attempt otherwise to perform, copy, modify or distribute the Sketch is void, and will automatically terminate your rights under this License. However, parties who have received copies from you under this License will not have their licenses terminated so long as such parties remain in full compliance.

5. You are not required to accept this License, since you have not signed it. However, nothing else grants you permission to perform, copy, modify or distribute the Sketch or its derivative works. These actions are prohibited if you do not accept this License. Therefore, by performing, copying, modifying or distributing the Sketch (or any work based on the Sketch), you indicate your acceptance of this License to do so, and all its terms and conditions for performing, copying, distributing or modifying the Sketch or works based on it.
